Most of the homes in these low-income black communities are leased by single mothers dependent on government assistance.
Some homes may have a live-in boyfriend who works a low-wage job.
The live-in boyfriend may be receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) if he has been incarcerated SNAP benefits, if not then he is dependent on his girlfriend to support him.
These low-income communities face several health-related issues which include heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and other chronic conditions, mental health problems such as depression and anxiety; obesity, low life expectancy, developmental delays experienced by the children and nutritional deficits just to name a few.
